How it's made
No two are ever the same
Every step is done by hand, so every cloth comes out a little different. Here is how one is made.

The pattern is drawn
It starts as a drawing, made for Bloomezzo and no one else.

The blocks are carved
Traced and cut into wood by hand. One cloth can take several blocks.

The color is sampled
We work with a master dye specialist, adjusting each shade until it is right. That alone can take days.

It's printed, one color at a time
Each block is pressed into dye, then onto the cotton. One cloth can take hundreds of impressions.
The tiny variations are not flaws. They are the trace of the hands that made it.

I worked in a fabric store as a teenager and went on to study fashion design. I won a national design competition, but it was always the print that held me. The repeat. The way a pattern says something words cannot.
After school I went to Paris for the markets and the ateliers, and came home with fabric and a point of view I have never lost. Then my husband and I honeymooned in India. That is us, in Jaipur. The color, the hand-carved blocks, the artisans working techniques passed down for generations. It put everything together.
